I have always been sensitive to my environment, and the atmosphere of a space has a strong impact on my emotions and creativity. Your home is your sanctuary, and I curate my space to reflect the qualities I desire: comfort, warmth, ritual, and quiet fantasy. I light candles in my space with intention, a reminder to slow down and enter the moment. Candlelight becomes my medium for connecting my body with space. In a similar way, the tactile act of sculpting with clay connects me to my body. I seek to transform the energy in spaces with my work.
The work I create is sculptural and functional, intended for beauty and ritual. My forms are organic and imperfect with emphasis on material and texture. My work is also influenced by my interest in Gothic-era decorative ironwork, channeling its aesthetic characteristics: strength, elegance and movement. The dark sculpture body I use allows me to achieve more intricate forms; I enjoy challenging the clay, learning and pushing its limits. My creative process is often intuitive and experimental with trial and error. I work layer by layer, engaging the clay like a puzzle. I use candlelight to illuminate the rich darkness of the clay body and finish my work with reflective glazes to amplify its glow.
